My name is Manasi and I am a teacher by day and an artist by night! My mom is an artist so I have been surrounded by art supplies my whole entire life! I never pursued anything in art in college, but I would create art pieces for fun whenever I had time! I made an Instagram last year to post my paintings, but once I started digital art, I took art a little more seriously! I am also a second-year Special Education teacher and I love what I do!
1) Where are you based & what’s a typical day like?
I currently live in Indianapolis, Indiana! I am a teacher and with school starting up again, my typical day is working 8am-4pm as a Special Education teacher. I am also pursuing my Masters in education so I either do homework or do something for my mental health, which is art!
2) Did you always want to be an artist?
Honestly yes, but I did not know how to go about doing it and I never thought it would be possible! With digital art becoming popular, I finally feel like my art is being seen!
3) What inspires you to create?
Most of my inspiration comes from my Indian heritage! I love my culture and I love being able to share that with others who relate or want to learn. I also love being able to educate others on topics I find super important, either with being inclusive or relatable! I also love Pinterest and if I see something beautiful, I love to recreate it (in my own way)!
4) What or who are your biggest influences?
My parents are my biggest influences! For one, I would never be able to create art if it weren't for my mom putting me in art classes when I was little. She is also so talented and my biggest fan! My dad in other hand is very practical and logical. He is so supportive of anything I do from being a teacher to also wanting to be an artist. Their opinions mean the most to me and I really appreciate having amazing parents who want me to be happy and thrive!
5) What message does your art convey?
I think my art conveys a positive message. I always say I want people to look at my art and smile! With all the craziness going on in life, I want people to smile knowing that there is something to look forward to. I also love being able to share my stories as a South Asian woman. Whether is it relatable or beautiful, I hope everyone sees my positivity!
6) 3 words that describe your art?
Creative, inclusive, positive
7) Favourite quote?
My favorite quote has changed over the years but right now it's "Don't count the days, make the days count."
8) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Honestly, I have NO idea, but hopefully being really happy in whatever I am doing!
9) What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment is Artwithmanasi!
10) Whats your preferred process to work with?
Acrylic paint! I love watercolour as well but acrylic paint is my absolute favourite. The feeling of picking up paint with my paintbrush is the best!
11) How would you want your art to be remembered?
I want my art to be remembered as very uplifting! There are so many topics in this world that I feel like they are overlooked and forgotten about and I like being able to create pieces that have a bigger meaning. I want people to look at my art and learn!
